I'm back and I get into some of the rookie talk

I’m back. I’ve been gone for a while but now I am back and ready to post frequently again.

The NBA season might be shorter this year because of the lockout but the time we have should be enjoyed. So without further ado, let’s get into 2012 talk.

The Rookies

Kyrie Irving and Tristan Thompson teaming up in Cleveland. Jimmer Freddette joining Tyreke Evans. Derrick Williams headed to the “The Land of 10,000 Lakes.” I have so much to talk about.

1.Who Will win Rookie of the Year?

So Many players could be chosen for this, so I’m just going to go through a few of my candidates.

Kyrie Irving, Cleveland Cavaliers:11 games played in college and he managed to go first. How? He looked great and his foot injury looked to be a thing of the past, so Cleveland took the risk of drafting him first.

Why am I talking about that though? Kyrie is not going to be LeBron or Derrick Rose, he’s going to be Kyrie. He can be a leader for the Cavaliers but he is only a rookie so no one should be expecting a playoff appearance by the Cavs next year.

Kyrie can play kind of like John Wall but John Wall didn’t win the rookie of the year, Kyrie might not win it either. But no matter what happens next year, I expect Kyrie to play good basketball.

How about the new D-Will

Derrick Williams, Minnesota Timberwolves:Derrick Williams may have been the least likely to fail in the NBA out of everybody in this year’s class. He can play power forward and small forward. He can rebound, play defense and shoot threes. But can he win the rookie of the year?

Derrick Williams could become an Antwan Jamison because he can shoot threes and play inside but he is more athletic and aggressive than Jamison. Jeff Green is another player who I might compare him to.

Derrick Williams is defiantly able to win, and with a worse draft class this year and all the questions about the rookies, I think he probably will.

Brandon Knight, Detroit Pistons:I think Knight could become one of the, if not the best player in this draft. Maybe it’s because I was seeing what he was doing in high school, the way he dominated games and was crowned the best high school player as a junior!

Knight could work on his game a little, but looking at a whole career, I think Brandon could be forged into a better player than Kyrie and Derrick, as for Rookie of the Year, that all depends on how he works in Detroit.

Last season Detroit SUCKED. There is no nicer way to put it. The Pistons are in a re-building process and Brandon Knight dropping to eight was a steal. Now they should work him into their system, but with a lockout, I don’t see Brandon turning into a player like John Wall or Tyreke Evans as a rookie. Give him a year or two first.

2.Who Will have the best career?

As I said I think Brandon Knight could become the best player in this draft, keyword, COULD. He was the best high school player, but how will that pan out into the NBA?

Brandon could become the star of Detroit, he could bring the Pistons back and he

Does he look unhappy to you? Does this mean he's going to leave Detroit when he gets the chance?

could make a few all-star appearances. Note, I said could three times in that sentence, because we don’t know what will happen with him.

I think by the end of his career we will look back on his career and think he was a lot like Tyreke Evans, just, not as good (and I think Tyreke will be one of the best players in the league in ten years).

Derrick Williams is my pick here, I expect him to play like Antwan Jamison or maybe Jeff Green as his career goes on. I don’t see him as becoming a Hall of Famer but he could become the star of a franchise like Minnesota, or the two or three in a championship team.

Would trading Pau Gasol or Andrew Bynum be worth the risk of takning Derrick Williams? I guess that depends on who the GM making the trade would be. If I were in Mitch Kupchak’s (general manager of the L.A. Lakers) shoes I would say my farewell to Bynum or Gasol for Williams, but I would see if I could get another piece in that trade.

In ten years I see us looking at all these players and saying “so far, Derrick Williams is the best player from that draft,” but it might not be that easy. With other players such as Kemba Walker, Tristan Thompson and Enes Kanter competing, I think it is next to impossible to guess this stuff.

How bout' 'em Grizzlies

The Memphis Grizzlies were a laughing stock when they first made it to the playoffs. I heard people say “sweep,” and “domination.” I’m not going to lie, I am guilty of this. I picked San Antonio in five.

Now Memphis holds a 2-1 series lead over Kevin Durant and the Oklahoma City Thunder. Two more wins and they will be headed to the franchise’s first conference finals appearance. Two more wins.

The Grizz need to form a solid bench for a bright future

Okay, they might win game four at home and I would not be surprised if they win three games in this series, three, not four, three.

How would the eighth seeded Memphis Grizzlies upset the Thunder. OKC knows how to get it done.

As long as Kevin Durant gets more shots than Russell Westbrook, OKC wins. But what about Memphis looking forward, they CANNOT go this far and not come back later. They recently re-signed Rudy Gay and it looks like Zach Randolph will re-sign with the team, but some players need to come. Memphis needs a stronger bench.

If the Grizz build a bench like Boston or San Antonio, they could be serious championship contenders. Lionel Hollins has done a tremendous job with this team and I wish them much success.

Kobe and the Lakers take on the Hornets, and they will win.

Andrew Bynum:knee, Matt Barnes:knee, Steve Blake:chickenpox. Those are the three injuries that will affect the Lakers as they take on the New Orleans Hornets today. Though L.A. will still win. Easily.

Why? The Lakers are LONG, and even if the Lakers are missing Bynum, Pau Gasol and Lamar Odom will get the dirty work down low. L.A. is missing Bynum, New Orleans is missing David West.

Chris Paul will be the only problem for L.A, but really, Kobe can stop Paul any day. The Hornets should have their runs, and so will the Lakers, but in the end, Kobe and Pau will destroy the Hornets.

The Lakers have lost five of their last seven, but that WILL not affect the Lakers. the regular season and the post-season are two different seasons, ask any athlete and they’ll tell you that. The Lakers are favorite in this game and they know that. They will produce.

I make my picks for the Final Four

The Southeast

Michigan State beats Pittsburg

Remember when Michigan State was 5-1? This is the same team that beat Purdue by 18 points. The same team that lost by five to number one seeded Duke. People might be sleeping on Michigan State which could help them and coach Tom Izzo may be one of the best NCAA coaches. I feel like they have the potential to beat St.Johns and Pittsburg and they will need to come out of the cage.

The Southwest

Kansas beats Purdue

It’s hard not to go with Kansas. The Morris brothers dominate the league and other NBA prospect Josh Selby can give them a few points and help the team a lot. Kansas has one of the best rosters in the NCAA tournament after a 32-2 season. Sure teams like Notre Dame and Purdue could give them some trouble but after an early exit last season, Kansas is after it all this season.

The West

Duke beats UConn

A lot of people like UConn in this match-up but I have got to go with Duke. The defending champs brought Kyle Singler and Nolan Smith back to help repeat and top NBA recruit Kyrie Irving might be coming back after his early season injury. UConn has some good players but Duke has the better team, the better coach and the home court advantage.

The East

Syracuse beats Ohio State

It may sound crazy but Syracuse is a team that knows how to win games and the other teams will expect less from Rick Jackson and the Syracuse Orange. This is their year to make it to the final four.

Could the San Antonio Spurs be headed to 72 wins?

Back in the 1995-96 NBA season Michael Jordan led the Chicago Bulls to a legendary record of 72-10. This year I sit on my couch and watch Manu Ginobili, Tony Parker and Tim Duncan lead the San Antonio Spurs to a record of 29-4. Could it be possible that the Spurs could go 72-10?

With The Spurs playing on fire it is kind of hard to think that very many teams can beat them, and by the time the season is over, this Spurs team might go down as one of the best teams ever. The Spurs have beaten the LA Lakers, the Dallas Mavericks and the Orlando Magic. If the Spurs can keep this up they could easily win the championship, but could they get 72 wins?

Phil Jackson said the Los Angeles Lakers could not get 72 wins because they have to travel so much. A team in the eastern conference like Boston or Chicago can do it because all of those cities are close together and it is not as much travel. San Antonio could be proving him wrong.

The reason San Antonio is playing so well is because they have a starting line-up playing well, Parker, Ginobili and Duncan want another ring and their bench is playing well. We saw some of this in the 96 Bulls, and history might be repeating itself. The difference between this team and the 96 Bulls is that the Spurs don’t have a Michael Jordan on their team. They just have a good roster who wants to win a championship.

Yao Ming will miss the remainder of the 2010-11 season

Yao Ming is the tallest NBA player currently playing standing at 7’6” and weighing 310 pounds. Earlier this year Yao said that if his injury did not fully heal he might retire.

Recently Yao Ming has had a stress fracture in his ankle. Now Yao will miss the rest of the 2010-11 season. That is not too big of a surprise. Yao is always getting injured and last season an injury kept him on the sideline the whole year.

Houston is 11-15 and Yao has averaged 10 PPG and 5 RPG for them. Now that Yao is out Chuck Hayes is the starting center for Houston.

Yao couldn’t just sit on the bench and collect money for very long if he wanted to because at the end of this season Yao becomes a free agent and I don’t know what team would sign him after missing 2 straight seasons.

Now that Yao is going to miss his second consecutive season he is probably getting pretty tired of sitting on the bench. He will probably retire after this season.

Houston would be in trouble because their star player is Kevin Martin and they are wasting their money on Yao.

In the future people should keep an eye out for Yao to retire and how the loss of Yao could affect the Rockets.

I don’t think Yao’s absence will affect the team too much. He did not do too much to help them win and other players like Luis Scola and Shane Battier should step up and lead this team.

Carmelo Anthony said he will only sign an extension with the New York Knicks if traded

Denver Nuggets all-star small forward Carmelo Anthony reported that if he would be traded by the Denver Nuggets he would only sign a contract extension with the New York Knicks. This might make the Nuggets front office worried about the upcoming free agency which will include Anthony. If Anthony is traded only the Knicks would want him. Right now it looks like Anthony’s next team will be the New York Knicks.
The Knicks have some good players including star Amare Stoudamire. Adding Anthony could really help the team. 2 all-stars on 1 team would be unstoppable. Only Boston, Miami, Los Angeles and San Antonio could be candidates to beat the Knicks. As the Big 3 in Boston get older their chances will start to collapse. The same things will happen to the Spurs and the Lakers. The Miami Heat have the Big 3 and their chemistry is starting to get together. Only a team like Miami could beat the New York Knicks but right now New York has a better bench than Miami.
New York will probably end up with Anthony and Stoudamire. As other big teams start to fade New York will get better and better and pretty soon New York could be celebrating in June.

Kobe Bryant tried to lead LA to a win, but a blocked shot gives them their fourth straight loss

The Los Angeles Lakers said they wouldn’t win 72 games this year. They look to be right. Kobe Bryant’s 29 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists was not enough to take the Lakers past the Memphis Grizzlies on Tuesday nights 98-96 loss.

With seconds ticking away Bryant had the ball. Memphis clogged up the lanes so Bryant passed to Ron Artest who shot a blocked shot and Memphis won. The Lakers were handed their fourth straight loss. They need to pull something together to get out of this losing streak.

Some players are playing well though. Bryant is the team’s best player. Gasol is the number 2 and arguably the best power forward in the league. Shannon Brown, Steve Blake and Matt Barnes are all helping off the bench. And the team is playing with their starting center, Andrew Bynum out. If they can find what the problem is, they can stay in the run to win the west.

I go over all of todays games and who I think will win, including Miami @ Boston

For now I will just put who I think will win today, there are 3 games on today, and I am pretty interested.

Houston Rockets @ LA Lakers

The Lakers did not have the best preseason, but we need to forget all of that, throw it in the past, it is time for the real NBA season. The Lakers will play hard now, they will stop at nothing to win. Bynum is injured so Odom and Gasol are the 4 and the 5 in the starting lineup. Houston should watch out with Yao Ming in case he gets injured, actually, didn’t I hear something about limited playing time for Yao? The Lakers have more talent and more experience. pick LA to win this game.

Miami Heat @ Boston Celtics

Dwyane Wade is starting. Good thing. They can finally stop the big 3 , but what about the big 4. Rajon Rondo is one of the NBA’s best point guards, he can get a triple-double and it is hard to stop him. Mario Chalmers cannot stop this guy and if they put Wade on Rondo, Ray Allen is left open. Kevin Garnett will probably get tired early and Chris Bosh will be playing on Glen “Big Baby” Davis. Big Baby cannot stop Bosh. Another important factor will be wether or not Jermaine O’Neil will be okay, he has an injured wrist but was cleared to play. When he does leave the court Shaquille O”Neal will come out, and he and Rondo looked pretty good. When it all comes down to it, Boston has a better bench and home court advantage, I’ve got Boston.

Phoenix Suns @ Portland Trailblazers

Last time we saw these 2 take on each other Phoenix won in a 5 game series, and Brandon Roy was injured, and Phoenix had Amare Stoudamire. Now replacing Stoudamire is Channing Frye and Roy is playing for Portland. Greg Oden is injured but Marcus Camby can replace him, oh and Portland lost Travis Outlaw, but they do have Nicolas Batum. Hedo Turkoglu is the back-up small forward for veteran Grant Hill. Phoenix still has a good roster but they will get crushed down low. Steve Nash even said he didn’t like the direction the team is headed. Portland has a better roster and they have the home court advantage, Portland should breeze past Phoenix.

Jerry Stackhouse has signed a contract with the Miami Heat

Not the best pre-season for the Miami Heat, Dwyane Wade got injured in the first game, they couldn’t play against the Orlando Magic, but they played okay. Now Dwyane Wade has been practicing with the team and they look better, and they added a new piece Saturday, Jerry Stackhouse. He is a veteran shooting guard who can help the team a lot. Dwyane Wade might get injured so Stackhouse and Mike Miller will have to do some dirty work. Mike Miller is also injured and might not return to Miami until January. We saw what he did in Milwaukee and Miami will gladly welcome him. Dwyane Wade is practicing with the team which is a good sign.
