I make my picks for the Final Four

The Southeast

Michigan State beats Pittsburg

Remember when Michigan State was 5-1? This is the same team that beat Purdue by 18 points. The same team that lost by five to number one seeded Duke. People might be sleeping on Michigan State which could help them and coach Tom Izzo may be one of the best NCAA coaches. I feel like they have the potential to beat St.Johns and Pittsburg and they will need to come out of the cage.

The Southwest

Kansas beats Purdue

It’s hard not to go with Kansas. The Morris brothers dominate the league and other NBA prospect Josh Selby can give them a few points and help the team a lot. Kansas has one of the best rosters in the NCAA tournament after a 32-2 season. Sure teams like Notre Dame and Purdue could give them some trouble but after an early exit last season, Kansas is after it all this season.

The West

Duke beats UConn

A lot of people like UConn in this match-up but I have got to go with Duke. The defending champs brought Kyle Singler and Nolan Smith back to help repeat and top NBA recruit Kyrie Irving might be coming back after his early season injury. UConn has some good players but Duke has the better team, the better coach and the home court advantage.

The East

Syracuse beats Ohio State

It may sound crazy but Syracuse is a team that knows how to win games and the other teams will expect less from Rick Jackson and the Syracuse Orange. This is their year to make it to the final four.

Texas beat undefeated Kansas 74-63

Kansas won 69 straight home games spanning over four years. But 70 was too big of a number. The tenth ranked Texas Longhorns upset the second ranked Kansas Jayhawks 74-63. For Texas J’Covan Brown scored 23 points and Jordan Hamilton scored 17 while on Kansas’ side Tyrel Reed scored 17 and Marcus Morris scored 16. Texas is now 16-3 and Kansas falls to 18-1.

The first ranked Ohio State Buckeyes won again beating twenty-second ranked Illinois 73-68. Jared Sullinger led the Buckeyes in scoring with 27 points and grabbed 16 rebounds while Jon Diebler scored 15 points. Jereme Richmond of Illinois scored 18 and Mike Tisdale scored 15. Illinois led 34-33 at the half but were out scored 40-34 in the second half. Ohio State is now 20-0 and 7-0 in the Big-10 and Illinois is 14-6 and 4-3 in the Big-10.

Seventh ranked Villanova gave Syracuse their second straight loss in an 82-73 road win. Villanova guard Maalik Wayns scored 21 points while guards Corey Stokes and Corey Fisher each scored 16. Kris Joseph of Syracuse scored 23 points while Rick Jackson scored 16 points and grabbed 15 rebounds. Though third ranked Syracuse fell to 18-2 just half leading 17-2 Villanova by a half game.

Kentucky center Enes Kanter is ineligible to play at the University of Kentucky for being paid

College is too early too get paid for athletes. There have been lots of stories in the news lately about college athletes being paid. Reggie Bush, Cameron Newton and now, a basketball player.

Enes Kanter is a 6’11” center at the University of Kentucky, the NCAA now has said Kanter is ineligible to play basketball. The NCAA caught Kanter being paid $33,000 more than he should have been getting.

“Enes took advantage of an opportunity to play at the highest level available to him, but the consequences of receiving payments above his actual expenses is not compatible with the collegiate model of sports that our members have developed.” NCAA vice president of academic and membership affairs Kevin Lennon said.

NCAA players have no business being paid. They are playing sports for their school and it was their decision. The players all ready get scholarships and they are famous. The problem with sports is that schools, especially powerhouse teams, will pay students all the money they want. Agents are not innocent either, they are usually the problem. But I have a feeling John Calipari had known Kantz had been paid. In the video below, Calipari talks about the players, when a question about Kantz, comes up, he looks a little suspicious.
